Unveiling the Upgraded Asus ROG Strix Scar Laptops: Shining Bright with More 'AniMe' Lighting!

Title: Illuminating the Asus ROG Strix Scar with Colorful 'AniMe' Lights

The ROG Strix lineup, spearheaded by Asus, is taking its external lighting game to new heights. The latest ROG Strix Scar, specifically the 16 and 18 models, boast an impressive array of AniMe LED lights on their covers, surpassing the illumination seen on the back of the recent ROG Phone 9. If jaw-dropping lighting is your primary gaming gear requirement, then these two newcomers would shine brightest.

But excitement for lighting isn't a necessity for everyone. Fortunately, the ROG Strix Scar 16 and 18 deliver on performance as well. They house a top-tier Intel Core Ultra 9 285HX and support the powerful Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 laptop version, equipped with a 175W max TGP and 24GB of VRAM. In terms of display, instead of OLED perfection, you receive a 2560 by 1440 mini-LED screen with a 240 Hz refresh rate. Though it may not please OLED fans, Asus promises exceptional brightness and compatibility with Nvidia G-Sync and Dolby Vision HDR.

The AniMe backlighting stretches across the bottom right corner, offering a selection of customizable preset images and animations. Even more appealing, the built-in system allows for your personal GIFs to be added to the backlights, and the RGB light bar embracing the chassis can be adjusted for additional flair.

These laptops are far from featherweight, weighing in at 6.28 pounds and rising, but they receive extra credit for supporting up to 64 GB of DDR5 RAM and 2 TB of SSD storage. And, if you ever feel the need for a component upgrade, Asus has made it remarkably simple with latches that secure the battery and RAM sticks, eliminating the need for complex tools.

In addition, ROG is debuting the Flow Z13, a revamped Windows-based gaming tablet with the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU. With promising gaming performance and a large 2.5K (2560 by 1440) 180Hz tablet screen, CO2 cooling via vapor chamber and Arc Flow fans keep the device from overheating. The tablet's portability is further enhanced with a foldout keyboard and stands, much like your average iPad.

As much as I appreciate the innovation in gaming tablets, I still find them unappealing for the average gamer. We are blessed with a myriad of compact gaming handhelds, like the Asus ROG Ally X, spearheading the market with its adaptability and capabilities.

CES 2025 is crawling with the coolest and oddest tech, and Gizmodo is here to cover it all, live from the show floor in Las Vegas.

The ROG Strix lineup, driven by Asus' vision, envisions a technologically advanced future with its innovative gaming devices. With the addition of cutting-edge tech like the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 and mini-LED screens, these gaming laptops promise an immersive gaming experience for the tech-savvy audience.
