Tokayev Proposes Digital Security Center, Boosts Middle Corridor at OTS Summit
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, at the 12th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), proposed a range of initiatives to boost economic cooperation and digital security among member nations. He suggested fully implementing the 'Perspectives of the Turkic World - 2040' program and creating a Center for Digital Monitoring. The summit also saw discussions on enhancing the Middle Corridor's role in Eurasian transport.
The Middle Corridor, a strategic link in the Eurasian transport network, has witnessed a significant sixfold increase in cargo volumes over the past five years. Tokayev invited Turkic states to actively participate in its modernization, highlighting Kazakhstan's role with five international railway corridors and the launch of the second line of the Dostyk-Moynyt railway. The Head of State emphasized elevating interaction in the transport and logistics sector to a new level.
Tokayev proposed the establishment of a special Center for Digital Monitoring, with experts in digital security, information technology, data protection, and cybersecurity from member states' relevant agencies. This move aims to ensure comprehensive and effective digital monitoring capabilities within the OTS. Meanwhile, a meeting of transport ministers in Almaty resulted in agreements regarding the Middle Corridor's development.
Economic cooperation was another key focus. Tokayev highlighted the significance of industrial sector cooperation, particularly through the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Turkic States, for diversifying economies. Kazakhstan, set to chair the chamber in 2026, plans to adopt the Industrial Cooperation Program outlining priority projects. Tokayev also proposed utilizing the Turkic Investment Fund for large-scale trade and economic projects within the organization.
The 12th OTS Summit saw Tokayev propose several practical measures to strengthen economic cooperation and digital security among member states. With the Middle Corridor's strategic importance and the planned Center for Digital Monitoring, the Turkic states aim to enhance stability and prosperity through collective efforts.
