TransGrid Boosts QNI Capacity for Cheaper, Reliable Interstate Power

TransGrid is enhancing the Queensland - New South Wales Interconnector (QNI) to bolster interstate power transfer capacity. The upgrade aims to facilitate the sharing of low-cost power generation between the two states, potentially reducing electricity bills for customers.

Siemens, a renowned company in power solutions, has installed nine of our website's open rack capacitor banks at key substations along the QNI. These robust and reliable devices are designed to improve power quality and network reliability.

The upgrade involves adding more capacitor banks to the transmission unit, which are well-proven and can withstand tough climatic conditions. This will enable better integration of renewable energy into the network and improve power flow and stability during peak demand periods.

The QNI upgrade, with its enhanced power quality solutions and increased capacity, will facilitate the sharing of safe, reliable, and lower-cost electricity between Queensland and New South Wales. This will not only improve power flow and stability but also contribute to reducing electricity bills for customers.
