TSMC Establishes Research and Development Facility in Munich
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world's leading contract semiconductor manufacturer, is establishing a research and development (R&D) center in Munich, Germany. The center, scheduled to open in Q3 2025, will cater to European clients seeking to develop advanced semiconductors for various sectors, including the automotive industry, industrial applications, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things.
According to TSMC's Europe Chief, Paul de Bot, the center will operate with the objective of optimizing chip designs for both mature and advanced manufacturing processes. This move marks TSMC's first R&D facility in Europe. The company is also engaged in a joint venture with Infineon, NXP, and Bosch for a fab (fabrication facility) construction in Dresden.
