Unauthorized Access in Solingen's Parking Garage: Operation Without Tickets

In an effort to streamline parking and promote eco-friendly practices, the Soleil City senior residence has introduced a new ticketless parking system called FreeFlow. This state-of-the-art system, implemented by the German company "fair parking," based in Düsseldorf, operates using license plate recognition (LPR) technology.

The FreeFlow system, which commenced this month, eliminates the need for physical parking tickets, reducing queues and minimising the risk of lost tickets. Upon entering and exiting the multi-story garage, cameras at the entrance and exit record the license plates of vehicles. This data is used to calculate parking fees automatically based on the vehicle’s recorded time in the garage.

Key features of the FreeFlow system include:

  • Ticketless operation: No need for a physical parking ticket, reducing queues and eliminating lost tickets.
  • Dual-camera LPR technology: Cameras read license plates from both the front and rear for higher recognition accuracy and reliability, minimising errors in high-traffic conditions.
  • Automated billing: Parking fees are calculated automatically based on the vehicle’s recorded time in the garage.
  • Improved user convenience: Residents can enter and exit without stopping, enhancing flow and accessibility.
  • Security and validation: The system compares plate reads from entry and exit to prevent fraud and ensure proper vehicle tracking.

The introduction of the FreeFlow system marks the replacement of the previous barrier systems in the parking garage. This ticketless parking solution aims to reduce noise pollution, traffic jams, CO2 emissions, and fine dust pollution.

Guests of the adjacent Norma market can still park for one hour for free using a discount code. Parking in the multi-story garage costs 1.00 Euro per started hour. The parking fee can be paid via license plate input on a touch display, contactlessly with Giro, Visa, and Mastercard, or online without prior registration up to 48 hours after the end of the parking process.

The service team of "fair parking" can be reached by phone at 0211 - 95 43 37 11 from Monday to Sunday, or by email at [email protected]. While specific process details for Soleil City's FreeFlow system were not found in the search results, it is inferred that the system operates similarly to Survision’s dual-reading license plate recognition, a modern ticketless parking technology framework commonly implemented in such solutions.
