Unveiled sneak peek of Pixel Watch 4 featuring 'side-mounted' charging ports in render designs
The Pixel Watch 4, Google's latest smartwatch offering, is set to make a splash with its innovative charging system. Instead of the traditional back-mounted wireless charging method, the Pixel Watch 4 employs a side-mounted charging system, featuring two circular charging pins located on the left side of the watch next to the speaker grill.
This design change brings about a small indentation on the left side of the watch body where the charging pins sit, allowing the device to physically stand on its side while charging. The charger itself is a pill-shaped puck with a curved indentation matching the watch’s side profile, making it function almost like a bedside clock with the display facing outward when charging.
This new charging system reportedly increases charging speeds by about 25% compared to the Pixel Watch 3. Moreover, the new orientation lets users easily see the time and battery status during charging, enhancing its use as a nightstand clock. However, it's important to note that the new charger is not compatible with previous Pixel Watch chargers due to the relocated pins and redesigned dock.
Rumors about the Pixel Watch 4's design suggest thinner bezels, a larger size, and a design similar to previous renders. These changes could potentially bring the Pixel Watch 4 closer to the dream of Google's smartwatch.
The Pixel Watch 4 is expected to have 41mm and 45mm variants, similar to the Pixel Watch 3. The pricing for the Pixel Watch 4 is rumored to remain similar to the Pixel Watch 3, with the 41mm Wi-Fi model priced at $349, the LTE model priced at $399, the 45mm Wi-Fi model priced at $399, and the 45mm LTE model priced at $449.
