Upcoming Release: A Sneaky DLC-Enhanced Version of MING's Minimalist and Versatile Original Design

In the world of watchmaking, MING continues to make waves with its minimalist, futuristic, and reductivist approach, creating instantly recognisable timepieces with distinctive features. The latest addition to their collection is the MING 37.02 Monolith, a black DLC-coated variant of their popular 37.02 Minimalist model.

The Monolith's 38mm case, coated with black diamond-like carbon (DLC), absorbs light to create a stealthy, almost matte presence. The mixed brushed-matte finish adds texture and lowers reflectivity, resulting in a more balanced and versatile aesthetic compared to previous polished steel versions. The compact dimensions – just 11mm thickness and 44.5mm lug-to-lug length – make it highly wearable.

The signature narrow bezel design maximises dial real estate, and the iconic pagoda-style lugs remain intact. Functional features like double-gasket construction, 100m water resistance, and a double-sided anti-reflective sapphire crystal ensure durability and practicality. The overall look is described as "ninja-like," offering a discreet yet assertive style suited for daily wear.

The Monolith's dial can shift from an almost black void to a reflective surface that mirrors its surroundings depending on the angle or lighting. This effect, combined with the dark treatment, amplifies the optical effects seen in the Minimalist, making the Monolith potentially the most wearable daily piece in MING's current lineup.

The watch is paired with a mango-coloured FKM rubber strap, offering a pop of colour. Unlike standard Super-LumiNova, the luminous material on the Monolith creates one of the few truly white-glowing lume compounds available. The Monolith's band also features quick-release tabs for easy strap swapping.

The Monolith's movement is a customised Sellita SW300.M1 with skeletonised anthracite bridges and a bespoke rotor. The crystal is filled with MING's proprietary Polar White luminous material, and the movement features anthracite components visible through the display caseback. The watch has a power reserve of 45 hours and a water resistance of 100m.

MING, a Malaysian watch brand, has gained popularity among enthusiasts for its unique design ethos. The luminous material on the Monolith is a custom formula developed by MING's founder, Ming Thein. The Monolith is available from MING's website, priced at CHF 3,500 (~$4,370) and is limited to 100 pieces annually.

This stealthy and elegant timepiece is a testament to MING's commitment to minimalism and their ability to create watches that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The Monolith is a watch that will undoubtedly appeal to those who appreciate understated elegance and practicality in their timepieces.

The MING 37.02 Monolith, with its black DLC-coated case and stealthy appearance, exemplifies a blend of gadgets and technology, showcasing MING's unique style in watchmaking. With its ninja-like style, this watch is a versatile and wearable addition to MING's collection of minimalist timepieces.
