Update brings anticipated features for Neural DSP's Nano Cortex users
New Update for Nano Cortex Amplifies User Experience
The Neural DSP Nano Cortex, a popular amp modeler, has received a significant upgrade with the NanOS 2.1.0 update. This latest release introduces a host of highly requested features, making the device more versatile and user-friendly.
One of the standout additions is the tap tempo feature, now controllable both physically on the pedal and via the Cortex Cloud app. To set the tempo on the device, simply hold Footswitch I to enter Tap Tempo mode, where its LED blinks at the current tempo. Press Footswitch I repeatedly to set the tempo, and press Footswitch II to exit the mode. In the app, a tempo menu now includes a tap pad, direct BPM number entry, and options to select between global or preset-specific tempos.
In addition to tap tempo controls, the update includes improvements to the incoming MIDI CC feature. The Nano Cortex can now receive MIDI Continuous Controller (CC) messages to control various functions, including bypassing individual device slots, adjusting the expression pedal position, setting tap tempo, and turning the tuner On/Off.
Moreover, the update introduces an Impulse Response loader bypass for a specific output and MIDI Thru. The MIDI Thru feature allows MIDI messages received via the TRS MIDI input to be forwarded directly to the USB MIDI output.
Other enhancements include the ability to set a volume level for audio coming from a USB-connected device, mute the analog input direct monitoring path, mute analog outputs to prevent signal doubling when monitoring only through a DAW, and keep reverb and delay trails audible when bypassing the Nano Cortex (if 4-Preset mode is disabled).
These changes are designed to enhance the usability and performance of the Nano Cortex, further solidifying its position in the competitive market for smaller-sized amp modelers. The Nano Cortex, launched in 2024 as a smaller and more affordable version of the Quad Cortex, has already made a significant impact, and this latest update is sure to keep it at the forefront of the industry.
