Upgraded emergency vehicles for Pforzheim Fire Department unveiled
Pforzheim Fire Department Upgrades Equipment with New Vehicles
The Pforzheim fire department has expanded its resources with the acquisition of three new vehicles: an incident command vehicle, an equipment transport vehicle, and a backup power generator. These vehicles were handed over in a ceremony today by Mayor Dirk Büscher to fire chief Sebastian Fischer.
The incident command vehicle, built by ComPoint Forchheim, is a mobile command post equipped with multiple communication devices and computer systems for coordinating responses during emergencies. It is 10.3 meters long and built on a MAN chassis with 213 kW power. The vehicle can be operational within five minutes of arrival at the incident, thanks to its quick-loading features with flexible roll containers. The vehicle cost approximately 600,000 euros, with a 104,000-euro grant from the state of Baden-Württemberg.
The equipment transport vehicle, built by Schäfer, is designed for flexible transportation of personnel and equipment during incidents, exercises, and other events. It is built on a Mercedes Benz Sprinter with 125 kW power and has a loading ramp with a 1,000 kg capacity. This vehicle has a maximum payload of 1,500 kg and cost approximately 111,000 euros.
The backup power generator, built by IWE, is essential for ensuring the fire department's operational capability and providing power in critical situations. It can be used to supply power to larger incident sites or gas stations and has a 100 kVA capacity. The generator cost approximately 92,000 euros and is designed to supply power to the main fire station or the Integrated Control Center in case of power outages and simultaneous failure of their built-in generators.
Mayor Büscher stated that these new vehicles adjust the performance of the fire department to meet increasing demands, while Fire Chief Fischer thanked all individuals involved in the procurement process for their tremendous dedication and perseverance, especially in the last two years. The total cost of these acquisitions is approximately 800,000 euros, with the state of Baden-Württemberg covering a portion of the costs.
The logistics vehicle, details of which were not provided, completes the fleet of new vehicles aimed at enhancing the performance of Pforzheim's fire department and municipal emergency services. In a power outage, the fire department or emergency services cannot provide power for the entire city, but backup power generators and fuel reserves are crucial for providing power in critical situations.
