Vioneo & Lummus Tech Team Up for World's First Fossil-Free Plastics Plant
Vioneo and Lummus Technology have joined forces to build the world's first industrial-scale fossil-free plastics production complex in Antwerp, Belgium. The plant will have a capacity of 200KTA and produce a range of free polypropylene grades using 100% segregated green propylene and ethylene.
The complex will use free methanol as feedstock, along with renewable electricity and hydrogen. Lummus Technology's scope includes the technology license, process design, front-end engineering support, and catalyst supply. The produced free polypropylene will serve as a direct drop-in replacement for fossil-based alternatives and will be fully traceable and CO2 negative.
The plant is expected to produce a significant amount of fossil-free polypropylene, contributing to a more sustainable future for the plastics industry. The collaboration between Vioneo and Lummus Technology is a significant step towards reducing the carbon footprint of plastic production.
