Volkswagen's newest release appears to involve collaboration with the music act, Purple Disco Machine.

In a nod to the past while looking towards the future, Volkswagen has begun production of the limited edition ID.3 GTX "Fire & Ice" model in Dresden and Zwickau. This special edition car is a tribute to the 1990 Golf 2 Special Edition, limited to 1990 units, and priced from 56,000 euros.

The soundtrack for this electric vehicle is provided by Tino Piontek, a Dresden-based hitmaker and Grammy winner, known as Purple Disco Machine. Contrary to earlier speculations, the soundtrack is not a remix of the theme song for the cult ski film "Fire and Ice" from 1986. Instead, it's a new track that features scenes from the film created by Munich designer and filmmaker Willy Bogner.

The production of the remix is by Harold Faltermeyer, a renowned musician known for providing the theme song for "Beverly Hills Cop" in the 80s. However, the soundtrack itself is performed by US singer Marietta Waters.

The ID.3 GTX "Fire & Ice" indulges in nostalgia only optically, referencing the 1990 Golf 2 Special Edition. Under the hood, it delivers up to 160 PS, ensuring a smooth and powerful driving experience.

In addition to Purple Disco Machine, the composition of the soundtrack also includes collaborations with Mark Forster and Alle Farben. The collaboration with Jake Shears, the singer of the New York band "Scissor Sisters", is not mentioned in this context.

As for the production of the ID.3 GTX "Fire & Ice" model, it takes place in Dresden and Zwickau, the same locations where the regular ID.3 GTX is produced. At 72 years old, Harold Faltermeyer is older than Tino Piontek, who is 45, but both continue to make significant contributions to the music and automotive industries respectively.
