Volvo Unveils V90 Cross Country: Off-Road Estate for €57,000+

Volvo has unveiled the new V90 Cross Country, a high-riding estate car designed for off-road adventures while maintaining on-road comfort. This niche vehicle is set to target a specific market segment, with a starting price in Germany expected to range between €57,000 and €66,000.

The entry-level V90 Cross Country is anticipated to be the D5 Momentum variant. It boasts a raised ride height, body cladding, and four-wheel drive, ensuring off-road capability without compromising on-road comfort. Volvo has optimized the chassis for this purpose.

Volvo is banking on the appeal of the V90 Cross Country's design and off-road prowess to drive sales. The Swedish automaker has a precedent with the XC70, which sold 30,000 units annually using a similar recipe. However, the growing popularity of premium SUVs over estates may pose a challenge to the V90 Cross Country's success. In terms of pricing, the V90 Cross Country is expected to be competitively priced, similar to the XC90 D5 Momentum, which retails for £46,850, compared to the regular V90 D5 Momentum at £41,555.

The new Volvo V90 Cross Country is set to hit the market, offering buyers an appealing blend of off-road capability and on-road comfort in an estate body. With a competitive price point and a proven formula from the past, Volvo hopes this niche vehicle will find its audience despite the growing preference for SUVs.
