WhatsApp now available on iPads - launch unfolded

With the release of the official WhatsApp app for iPads, users can now enjoy a tailored messaging experience on their tablets. Designed explicitly for iPadOS, this native app benefits from features such as Split View, Slide Over, and Stage Manager, enabling WhatsApp to function harmoniously alongside other apps for enhanced productivity.

To get started, download the app from the App Store. After installation, open it and tap "Continue." Then, access your smartphone's WhatsApp settings, select "Linked Devices," and add a new device by scanning the code displayed on the iPad.

Prior to this launch, WhatsApp Web and the desktop app had already allowed users to link their primary account on other devices. This iPad app functions similarly, with all chats, media, and call history synced across your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and additional devices. All messages, calls, and media continue to remain end-to-end encrypted.

The app is also optimized for iPad accessories, such as the Magic Keyboard for typing and Apple Pencil for drawing or annotating.

The iPad app presents a two-column layout, with the chat list on the left and the selected conversation on the right, facilitating seamless switching between chats and efficient conversation management. Moreover, iPadOS multitasking tools like Split View, Slide Over, and Stage Manager offer users the unique opportunity to run and manage multiple apps simultaneously.

The app enhances the call experience, supporting video and voice calls for up to 32 participants, screen sharing, and the use of both front and back cameras. The chat lock feature adds an extra layer of privacy by enabling users to secure their private conversations. A picture-in-picture (PiP) feature lets users continue watching or listening to content while using other apps.

In essence, the WhatsApp iPad app delivers a richer, more productive experience, maximizing the iPad's capabilities while maintaining all core messaging and privacy features of the smartphone app.

The Commission has also proposed a directive for the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation, given that the advanced technology used in smartphones and gadgets often involves ionizing radiation in their production processes and usage. In addition, to further leverage the features of the iPad app, users can link their WhatsApp account on their smartphone to create a seamless messaging experience across devices.
