The two-meter diameter ring sundial, a distinctive feature of the Wichern School at Lacomblet Street in Düsselthal district, has been moved from its original location due to residential construction. This sundial, with its star-shaped copper wing nut crowning the gnomon, has been a staple of the area for 61 years, playing a significant role in the alignment of the sundial and displaying the true local time.

The sundial's design is unique, with a star-shaped element aligned with the North Star. The copper wing nut, shaped like a star, is a crowning feature that adds to its aesthetic appeal. The north-south plane divides the ring-shaped dial into a morning and an afternoon side, allowing the sundial to accurately show the time throughout the day.

The former school building, which once housed the sundial, was used by the city as a study institute and refugee accommodation. However, the new location of the sundial remains undisclosed.

Annelies Böcker, who has expressed a desire for the sundial to shine again in its former glory at its new location, acknowledges the challenge in setting up the sundial due to its precise alignment and adjustment. Peter Saatkamp, who has worked with sundials in the past, shared similar sentiments, emphasising the importance of the sundial's alignment for it to function correctly.

As the search for the sundial's new home continues, the community eagerly awaits the day when the sundial will once again serve as a symbol of time and celestial navigation in Düsselthal. For those seeking more information about the sundial's relocation, contacting local authorities or the managing organisation of Wichern School in Düsselthal might provide further details.
