YouTube Introduces AI Tools for Creating Shorts, Enhancements for Video Makers

YouTube is stepping up its game with the unveiling of a host of new AI tools, aimed at enhancing the Shorts and YouTube Studio experiences for both creators and viewers. These developments, announced by YouTube CEO Neal Mohan at the creator-focused event, Made on YouTube, in New York, are grounded in the belief that AI should be in service of human creation.

The additional features for YouTube Shorts will be rolled out to more users in the coming weeks. Among these new additions are Edit with AI and Speech to Song. Edit with AI allows creators to make edits to their videos with the help of AI, while Speech to Song transforms spoken words into catchy tunes, adding a musical element to Shorts.

YouTube is also developing tools that give creators new ways to tell their stories and viewers ways to discover them. One such tool is an auto-dubbing feature with lip sync, currently in a limited test. This feature uses AI to dub videos in different languages, ensuring that content reaches a wider audience.

Another exciting development is the integration of a custom version of Google DeepMind's video generation model, Veo 3, into Shorts. This tool will enable the addition of motion and objects to Shorts, making videos more dynamic and engaging. YouTube plans to start experimenting with Veo capabilities in the coming months.

In terms of discovery, YouTube is bringing A/B testing for titles and new updates to the Inspiration Tab. These changes are aimed at making it easier for viewers to find and discover new content. By the end of the year, most users can expect to have access to these updates.

A new feature, Ask Studio, is also in the works. This AI-powered conversational chat tool will provide creators with answers to their questions, although it will initially be available only in the US.

Collaboration between creators is also set to become easier, with the ability to add collaborators to a video and have it appear to all their audiences. This feature is currently rolling out in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

YouTube is also addressing concerns about unauthorized use of facial likenesses in videos. A new likeness detection tool in YouTube Studio allows people to catch and request the removal of unauthorized videos made with their facial likeness. This feature is currently available as an open beta to all YouTube Partner Program creators.

Lastly, users can now create short, vertical videos with sound from a text prompt using this new feature. This tool opens up a world of possibilities for creators, making it easier than ever to bring their ideas to life.

To try out the new features, users can simply tap the "create" button and then the sparkle icon in the top right corner of Shorts. YouTube is excited about these developments and looks forward to seeing the creative content that will be produced as a result.
