Zabaykalsky Krai Pioneers UAV Wildfire Drills
The Zabaykalsky Krai region recently hosted a groundbreaking event: the first-ever drills using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for combating wildfires. Led by regional Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology, Pavel Volzhin, the drills showcased the potential of UAVs in firefighting, with tasks completed and unique experiences gained by participants.
The drills, headed by Colonel Ivan Petrov, involved two types of tests: area surveying and active firefighting. GeoScan-801 UAVs were deployed to survey the area, detect fire spots, and determine the nature, size, and spread of fires. The obtained information was swiftly and accurately transmitted between the drone crew and ground services.
In the active firefighting phase, exploding balls were used to extinguish fires. These innovative tools can put out up to three square meters or five cubic meters of fire. The method proved sufficient in its effectiveness during the drills.
Letters of thanks were given to outstanding UAV operators for their role in the successful drills. The use of UAVs in firefighting has shown promise, and further exploration of this method is expected to enhance response capabilities in the Zabaykalsky Krai region.
